Crucial to Understanding:
a 4 part work in progress.

No Language for Strange Places  WIP (above)
(audio portion)

Audio consists my myself reciting "Secalp egnarts rof egugnal on" (No Language for Strange places written backwards)
I then reversed the recited recording in an attempt to hear the properly pronounced phrase.
The resulting audio compilation is paired with the text.

Text: Randomly chosen excerpt from Karen Barad's Meeting the Universe Halfway Page 173. Typed backwards (with errors) on Stonehenge paper with metallic green/gold ink transfer. Topic of paragraph is historical theoretical physics disputes. Click image below (right ) to see reversal.

Painting: Oil on plywood, 3x4' WIP
working title "Crucial to Understanding"

Audio tracks layered in combination include:

1)Myself reading my phrase "Crucial to understanding the workings of power is an understanding of the nature of power in the semantics of this sentence and repetition of irony in the form of using the power dynamic intrinsic in the structure of language to talk about the power dynamic intrinsic to the structure of language."
2) a computer generated reading of the same phrase.
3)My self reading a randomly generated paragraph with poetic intonation.
4) A you-tube instructional video explaining the Zipf mystery (an algorithm that can predict the frequency of occurrence of letters and words in any text.)
