Q: Do I need to sing up for more than one lesson at a time? What if I want a trial lesson?
A: Not a problem at all!
Often young children require an adjustment period, or maybe you are not sure if I am the right teacher for what you would like to learn. I offer one trial lesson for 40 dollars, where the parents are welcome to stay or drop in and out. (which is an option any time!)
After the innitial lesson, you can continue to pay one lesson at a time, or pay for 4 lessons in advance. For Rates, please visit the 'Schedules and Rates' page.
I also teach workshops which can be in series or just sign up for one!
Q: Where is the Living Art Room?
A: The Living Art Room is located in Montreal, QC, close to Laurier metro. If you are wondering the exact location in order to attend a lesson - send me an email or give me a call and I can give you directions:)
Q: What if I cannot make it to a scheduled lesson?
A: Please let me know ahead of time and we can arrange for you to make up a lesson. If you do not let me know at least one day in advance, you will not be reimbursed for your lesson. If I travel to your home for a lesson and you fail to cancel before I arrive at your home, you will be required to pay for the cost of the lesson, including the travel fee.
Q: How long are the lessons?
A: I teach one hour lessons or one and a half hour lessons, usually scheduled one per week or by-weekly.
Q: How much do the classes cost at the Living Art room?
Please visit my 'Rates' page for a complete break down of fees.
Q: What type of lessons do you teach?
A: I teach beginner, intermediate, or advanced lessons in painting and drawing. I teach watercolours or acrylics, pencil, charcoal and pastels. You may request oil painting lessons, but these are scheduled individually and will take place at my studio rather than in the class room.
I also teach some sculpture - soap stone carving, plaster bandage, self hardening clay (free form pottery), wire sculpture, jewlery making, and nature crafts.
If you have questions specifically about any medium, please email me and I will gladly respond with specific answers. Or if you are interested in a medium not listed above, feel free to contact me - I may have missed something!
Q: Do you speak French?
A: oui! mais, ce n'est pas parfait ... :)
Q: Do you offer lessons for children in your home/studio space?
A: YES! In the past, my classes were held in my living room. Now my new studio at Metro Laurier is in an unfinished apartment - I use the Living room as a studio and a lovely class room - and this is the 'living art room'
Q: Can my children bring a friend?
Of course! The more the merrier. I am happy to teach group lessons if you have more than one student who is interested in learning. My max. is 6 children - and of course the lessons need to take place in your home - so make sure you have place suitable for some serious art making.
Q: What sort of space do I need to provide in my home?
A: I don't need a lot of space, but it depends on what type of lessons the students are participating in. Drawing lessons are generally less messy, and require less space. We need a table/flat work space and a chair for myself and each student. It is also helpful if the students have access to a sink where they can wash their hands during the lesson. Somewhere without carpet is ideal - this is Art afterall - and its been known to get a little messy. Paint is messier than drawing - generally - and its not as easy to wash off once its dry.
Q: Do I need to provide any materials for the lesson?
A: I will bring and provide all of the necessary materials. It doesn't hurt to have some rags handy for clean up, although I will bring some of my own as well. The materials that I bring are shared by all of my students, so if you want your child to have access to high quality supplies, you are welcome to ask me what you might buy. I am happy to give pointers. But for the projects, I will bring everything that the child needs for creating during the course of the lesson.
Having one's own sketchbook is helpful to keep all of the work together - but not necessary.
